"Best Friends Forever is a story of friendship, dysfunction, and small town secrets. When Addie Downs and Valerie Adler are nine years old, they believe that they will be "best friends forever". However things change as teenagers when Val hangs out with in "in crowd", and Addie, the fat unpopular girl, becomes her school's scapegoat. The former friends, go their separate ways for some fifteen years until an incident brings them together once again.
The story is told from the 1st person and 3rd person perspectives, and the reader gets a glimpse of what transpired in the past through the use of flashbacks. This technique worked well, in my opinion.
I enjoyed the story. The characters are fairly well developed and flawed, and although a story about best friends and women's friendships is not a new theme, this novel is recommended, especially as a great summer read."
