"East of the Sun is not just a tale about three women travelling to India on the Indian Princess in 1928. Julia Gregson has crafted an adventurous novel full of the rich detail, smells, and sounds of the period. From the first page, Ms. Gregson, manages to make the reader care about the finely drawn characters, and about what happens to them during their long journey and beyond. The clash of cultures, social pecking orders, British colonial times, entwined with a bit of romance, helped to make this a very interesting read."

"I loved this book. I love long novels and am always distraught when they are finished -- especially if the story is good. This story was excellent. British occupied India in 1928. Things are about to change in India and into this midst comes Tor, Rose, Viva and don't forget Guy. I liked reading about their adventures and it seemed so real - that I was almost there. I believe the last novel I read about India was years ago - The Far Pavillions. I remember I liked that one too - but I think I like this one better. It is about the common folk, it is about women once again surviving and doing a great job of it."
